The Mission of Shishmaref School:

Through a collaborative effort Involving teachers, community, and students, using quality educational programs, is to educate all students to become responsible, self-supporting, and productive citizens, who strive to reach their maximum potential

Shishmaref school and community pride themselves in being considered one of the friendliest villages in Alaska. Our school has a student population of approximately 183 K-12 students and has an early childhood 3yr & 4yr olds with approximatemly 33 students.

Our students are engaged in the Success For All reading program from kinderoots through Stand Alone and Reading Edge through the high school level. We know reading well is the key to be successful in all areas of school and life.

Our school staff both classified and certified have shown a real commitment to the education of our school students as evidenced by the longevity of staff. Our staff make a real effort to be involved in the community, and encourage the community to be involved in the school. Parents and community members are very supportive of the students activities. Elders presence in the school on all occasions and acting as one of the first teachers and advisors to students enhances the can do attitude shown by our students. Students, staff, and community members are encouraged to contribute to this narrative.
